If you want a simple brewing method that delivers full body, rich sweetness, and deep flavors — the French Press is your best friend. Unlike pour-over methods, the French Press extracts evenly through immersion, making it forgiving and consistent.

1. What You Need

  • French Press (350–600 ml)

  • Medium-coarse ground coffee

  • Kettle

  • Scale

  • Spoon or paddle

2. Recommended Parameters

  • Coffee: 18 g

  • Water: 300 ml

  • Water Temp: 94–96°C

  • Grind: Medium-coarse (sea salt)

  • Total Brew Time: 4 minutes

3. Brewing Steps

​ ​Step 1 — Add Coffee

​ ​ ​Place 18 g of coffee into the French Press.

​ ​Step 2 — Add Hot Water

​ ​ ​Pour in 300 ml of hot water gently.

​ ​Step 3 — Stir & Steep

​ ​ ​Stir once to break dry clumps.

​ ​ ​Cover and steep for 4 minutes.

​ ​Step 4 — Break the Crust

​ ​ ​After 4 minutes, gently break the floating crust with a spoon.

​ ​ ​Scoop the foam and surface particles.

​ ​Step 5 — Press & Pour

​ ​ ​Slowly press the plunger down.

​ ​ ​Serve immediately to avoid over-extraction.

4. Taste Adjustments

    • Too strong → decrease steep time to 3:30

    • Too thin → add more coffee (19–20g)

    • Too muddy → grind coarser

5. Best Beans for French Press

    • Mandheling — earthy, chocolatey, syrupy

    • Robusta Natural — smoky, bold, heavy body

    • Gayo Peaberry — rich sweetness with low acidity
